About Patrick Drummond
Prior to working in the film industry Patrick’s background was as a writer in advertising. He worked for almost a decade as a Copywriter in a number of leading London agencies including Benton and Bowles and Boase, Massimi Pollitt.
He has now been writing and directing film for more than twelve years and his work includes television commercials for the international markets as well as a very broad spectrum of non-broadcast work.
His range is very extensive and his experience diverse. He has shot all over the world on both film and videotape and is just at home in the studio and on location. He is also equally adept at directing performances from actors and non-actors alike.
The varied styles and subjects of his work are reflected in the range of his commissions. His wide experience had made him difficult to pigeon hole as it has involved projects examining and exploring very different subjects. Instead, he has developed the ability to craft interesting and entertaining stories from very diverse, often difficult, subject material.
He has made a number of films on 'delicate subjects' including senile dementia and various disabilities and has developed a particular talent for creating emotion through film whilst avoiding mawkishness and sentimentality.
Together, his advertising background and range of commissions has given him a high degree of confidence to turn his hand to almost any subject and also to a variety of filmic styles.
He believes passionately in 'telling stories on film' and seeks the narrative strands within any project.
A good story well told and shot in a style best suited to the narrative are his guiding principles.
His films are generally cinematographic rather then televisual and are always made with the audience firmly in mind.
Although he is based in England, he also has particular knowledge of, and love for Africa. He has worked extensively in the continent particularly in East Africa and has a home on shores of Lake Naivasha in Kenya.
He is keen to work with writers and producers committed to fine filmmaking and is more than happy to hear from those wishing to develop narrative projects with a Director.
He is very well trained in his trade and is able to turn his hand to any subject. He is now looking to move forward in to larger broadcast projects and the development of screenplays.
